Chellean Man (Tanzania)

Definition: Chellean man is the name given to a Homo erectus skull with an extremely large brow ridge, found by Louis Leakey in 1960. The skull and other subcranial bones were found in Bed 2 of the Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania. The skull is dated between 1.2 and 1.5 million years old, and was found associated with Chellean type handaxes.
