Chengziya (China)

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Chengziya is an archaeological site in Licheng county of Shandong Province, China, consisting of a walled village, with occupations primarily dated to the Longshan period (2600-2000 BC).

The square walled settlement at Chengziya includes an area of some 200,000 square meters. The southern gate likely had two sentry stations, one on either side. The 7 meter high wall was built of pounded earth, 10 meters wide at the base and five at the top.

Inside the settlement walls were found foundations for houses, pottery kilns and wells, as well as a range of pottery vessels, stone tools, oracle bones, and weaponry.
