Definition: Chinchawas is a small village site, part of the Recuay polity, located on a known transportation route between the coast and the highlands in northern Peru. The site covers approximately four hectares, and was occupied between AD 1 and 1000, although the principal occupation dates to the Recuay period between AD 250-500. The site is known for distinctive pottery and stone sculpture. The site was excavated by George Lau.
