Archaeology magazines printed at publishing houses for the general public (such as Archaeology Magazine, Current Archaeology, Minerva, Biblical Archaeology and the like) are a great source of archaeology news. While they are not as easily accessed as online news sources (for most you have to subscribe, or at least search your local news stand), the quality of articles is far better than most online sources.
A current list of archaeology magazines has been compiled.
Pro:
- articles are well-edited and thought out
- articles written by professional archaeologists or writers
- buying them supports public archaeology
- you can keep them on hand to refer to in the future
Con:
- usually only come once every one or two months
- relatively expensive (compared to other sources)
- can't choose what kinds of articles you want to read, except in a general sense of the word
- you must subscribe or look for them at news stands.
