Workshops and Seminars in Archaeology

Many other opportunities to study archaeology or archaeological related fields abound; here's a sampling of short courses planned for this year.

Kampsville Program | School of Human Evolution
June 13–August 6, 2010 (multiple sessions). Kampsville/Arizona State University. Several master classes in various subjects will be held at the Kampsville campus this summer, including paleobotany, chronometry, geoarchaeology, geophysical testing, faunal analysis, and GIS.

ADS|Training: Intro to Human Osteology in Archaeology (Ireland)
July 13-24 and July 27-31, 2009. Archaeological Development Services Ltd. An Introduction to Human Osteology in Archaeology, is a two week course, where students will learn the skills to interpret human remains in an archaeological context, and gain an insight to the individual’s circumstances and environment, before and after death.

ADS|Training: Introduction to Peatland Archaeology (Ireland)
June 22-July 3, and July 6-July 31, 2009 (two separate sessions). Archaeological Development Services Ltd. The Introduction to Peatland Archaeology will provide students with the skills to locate, identify, record and excavate archaeological structures in the Peatland environment, and to gain an insight into human interaction, within marginal landscapes.

Austin Peay State Univeristy Study Abroad to Greece
Annually, summers. Austin Peay State University. Students spend four weeks studying and visiting archaeological sites from Neolithic to Modern. All students do two classes, Archaeology of Greece (3 credits) and Intensive Modern Greek (4 credits).

Marine Archaeology: Aegean Institute
Summer 2004. The Aegean Institute. Through a combination of field work and classroom sessions, students will discover the significant role of the marine element in the development of Aegean cultures.

Papyrological Summer Institute
30 June - 1 August 2003. Yale University's Beinecke Library. A papyrological institute will be held in the summer of 2003, the first in a series of institutes organized under the auspices of the American Society of Papyrologists. Scholars and advanced doctoral candidates in any relevant area of ancient studies are welcome to apply.

Quantitative Methods and Data Analysis
September 10-17, 2006. University of Siena. The 16th annual International Summer School in Archaeology is aimed at students, post-graduates, researchers and professionals in the field wishing to strengthen their skills in quantitative methods and data analysis.

Seminar on Architectural Restoration
Year-round. The Centro Internazionale de Studi di Architecttura Andrea Palladio conducts several courses on the history of architecture, and architectural restoration.

Summer Institute in Materials Science & Material Culture
June 67-17, 2005. NSF-funded short course at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, "to encourage and assist faculty at liberal arts colleges in introducing materials science and engineering to their undergraduate curricula."

The Land of Hellas: Ancient Topography - Modern Legacy
May 15 - June 13, 2004. University of Richmond, study in Greece. Visiting the great sites of the remains of Classical and Byzantine Greece, we will explore them as we examine the modern country and its role in the world today. No Greek thinks of himself or herself as European while at the same time considering every European to be in legacy a Greek.
