Donkeys

The latest information about donkeys states that they were domesticated in northeastern Africa--that is to say, predynastic Egypt, about 4,000 BC. They were used primarily as pack animals, enabling the dynastic Egyptian civilization and other societies of Western Asia to move food and trade goods easily in the harsh conditions of the Sahara and other deserts.
