Dadianzi (China)

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Dadianzi is an early Bronze Age site located near Xiajiadian in Chifeng city of Inner Mongolia. The site has two major occupations, the first dated to the Lower Xiajiadian culture of 2000-1500 BC and contemporaneous with the Erlitou culture. The more recent occupation is pegged to the Upper Xiajiadian period, 1000-300 BC. Excavations were conducted at Dadianzi in the 1970s and 1980s by the Institute of Archaeology CAS. The site includes a fortified settlement with a cemetery with over 800 tombs. More recent investigations by CASS have focused on the early evidence of dog domestication at Dadianzi.
