Darra-i-Kur (Afghanistan)

Definition: The cave called Darra-i-Kur is a Middle Paleolithic site in Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, located west of the modern village of Baba Darwesh. A skull fragment recovered from this site most likely represents modern human (Homo sapiens sapiens) or Neanderthal (Homo sapiens neandertalensis) found in association with a Mousterian stone tool assemblage, and dated to approximately 120,000 years ago.
