Definition: The Dawenkou culture is the name given to the Late Neolithic period of Shandong Province, China, between 5000-3000 BC. Like other Chinese late neolithic cultures, the Dawenkou had a developed agricultural system, fortified settlements, pottery and jade carving, and burials with grave goods suggesting social stratification.
