Definition: Dongshanzui is the name of a Hongshan culture site in Kazuo county, Liaoning province, China, occupied between 4700-2920 BC. The site includes several stone platforms that some scholars have identified as altars, the largest of which is 240 square meters. Artifacts in the site assemblage include about 20 terra cotta human figurines, the largest of them nearly half-human size, and two of which represent naked pregnant women. All of this, plus the presence of jade animal pendants and other artifacts, has led to the site's interpretation as a fairly important Neolithic religious center for Mongolia, along with Niuheliang.
