El Niño Southern Oscillation

By , About.com Guide

Definition: El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the name given to a climatological effect. Combined with his little sister La Nina, the ENSO is best known for causing havoc in present-day South America. Once thought to be a recent result of global warming, the El Nino effect has been recognized as having been a disruptive force throughout human history and has been implicated in some of the troubles faced by the Inca civilization.
