Definition: El Paraíso is the name of an early preceramic or Cotton Preceramic site in the Chillon River Valley of coastal Chile. El Paraiso (or Paradise) was a cotton farming community of between 1500 and 3000 people about 2000-1400 BC, where the main subsistence was fish and other marine animals, atlhough squash, beans, and jicama were also grown here. The site was excavated by Jeffrey Quilter, who was testing Michael Moseley's maritime hypothesis.
