Definition:
The site of Frénouville consists of a series of Late Antique and Early Medieval cemeteries in the Calvados region of western Normandy, including a total of over 650 burials interred between the Late Roman period and 7th century AD.
Excavator Christian Pilet interpreted the grave goods and skeletal remains to indicate a remarkable stability to the village throughout the period, although physical anthropologist Luc Buchet argued for an arrival of emigrants into the village in the 6th century AD. The excavations were conducted in the early 1970s. Frénouville is considered one of the best excavated and reported medieval sites in France.
