Na'aran, Israel/Palestine

By K. Kris Hirst, About.com

Definition: Na'aran was a Byzantine settlement and synagogue during the 5th and 6th century AD, located about four kilometers from Jericho. The synagogue floor is still largely intact, and it had one of those lovely mosaics of the period, this one reading "peace upon Israel" in Hebrew.
