Gallagh Man (Ireland)

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

Gallagh Man is the name given to an Iron Age (ca 470 and 120 B.C.) bog body recovered from a peat bog in Castleblakeney, County Galway.

Gallagh Man is one of the few bog bodies with fairly clear evidence of ritual and perhaps violence involved with his death, with two pegs on either side of his body showing he was pinned down, and a band of hazel branches arranged around his throat.
