History of Egyptian Archaeology

The history of Egyptian archaeology is quite broad and in certain respects parallels the history of archaeology itself. Here are a few links to whet your appetite.

The Giza Archives Project
The Giza Archives Project provides historical documents from excavations directed by George Reisner in the Giza Pyramid area between 1905 and 1942. The website is from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, who co-sponsored the excavations with Harvard.

At the Tomb of Tutenkhamen
From National Geographic, an interactive website dedicated to the investigations of Howard Carter and Lord Carnavon at the tomb of King Tut.

The 1905-1907 Breasted Excavations
James Henry Breasted spent 1905-1907 in Nubia to record the ancient monuments there; he took over a thousand photographs, now available on line, courtesy of the Oriental Institute.
