The complete cross in the middle is a reconstruction of the mangled cross in the corner, and each of the gems next to it. The cross is of gold and the gems garnets; it was part of the Staffordshire Hoard, believed to represent the personal cache of an elite Anglo-Saxon warrior, and to date to the 7th century AD.
