Joyce Marcus

Definition: American archaeologist and epigrapher Joyce Marcus has been associated with the University of Michigan's Museum of Anthropology since 1985, where she is presently Professor of Anthropology and Curator of Latin American Archaeology. Educated at Berkeley and Harvard, Marcus is perhaps best known for her work with the Zapotec civilization of central Mexico, and Maya writing systems; and has worked in Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize.
