Stone Llamas, Inca Civilization, Peru

These stone figurines illustrate the important role of domesticated animals to the Inca economy, and may have had ritual or ceremonial uses. Llamas, as depicted in these figurines, were used as pack animals to carry goods across Inca roads. Llamas were also an important food source.
