Definition: The Oaxaca valley is a large y-shaped valley in Oaxaca state of central Mexico, and it was the home of the Zapotec and Mixtec civilizations.

The valley is one of the most extensively investigated places in the world, with several extremely influential studies by scholars such as Kent Flannery and Gary Feinman. Several of the ancient sites are open to visitors, including the amazing Monte Albán.
