Pacheco (Peru)

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The archaeological site of Pacheco, Peru, located in the Nasca Valley of highland Peru, is a Wari (also spelled Huari) religious offering dated around 500-800 A.D. The offering at Pacheco involved the exavation of a large pit, into which were thrown large quantities of high-quality polychrome pottery, decorated wtih human or supernatural figures. At the time of its excavation in the 1920s, there were several large foundations suggesting a pretty substantial administrative center was at Pacheco; but the excavators concentrated on the goodies, and as a result there are few records of this site.
