John Punnett Peters [1852-1921]

Definition: American archaeologist John Punnett Peters was first scientific director of the the Babylonian Exploration Fund and a professor of Semitics at the University of Pennsylvania, who conducted the first seasons of archaeological investigations at Nippur beginning in 1887; and in the process found 60,000 Sumerian cuneiform tablets.
