By , About.com Guide

Definition: Philo of Alexandria was a writer and philospher, living in the Jewish colony within the town of Alexandria, Egypt at the beginning of the Christian era. His writings are important because they provide information about the society at the time, but also for Philo's grappling with the combination of Greek and Hebrew philosophies.
