al-Rafiqa (Syria)

Definition: The archaeological site of al-Rafiqa is an Abbasid site in Syria, with a complex of palaces enclosed by a massive horse-shoe shaped wall around the perimeter. Built by Caliph Al-Mansur in 722 AD, al-Rafiqa may be a companion city to al-Raqqa.
