Definition: Iraqi archaeologist Fuad Safar was educated at the American School of Oriental Research and worked out of the Iraqi Antiquities Department during World War II. He excavated at Tell Hassuna, Tell Uqair and Eridu, among many other sites. He was among the first wave of professionally-trained archaeologists in Iraq.
