Archaeology in Science Fiction

By K. Kris Hirst, About.com

Definition: You probably don't need a definition of science fiction; that class of fiction that involves science. For some strange reason, science fiction writers have been drawn to archaeology, including the great science fiction writers such as H. Beam Piper, Michael Moorcock, Robert Silverberg, Isaac Asimov, and A.E. Van Vogt. See Steve Trussel's fabulous Prehistoric Fiction page for all the details.

This glossary entry is part of the Dictionary of Archaeology. Sources for the term include the references listed on the front page of the Dictionary, and the websites listed in the sidebar. Any mistakes are the responsibility of Kris Hirst.
