Adam Sedgwick [1785-1873]

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Adam Sedgwick was a geologist teaching at Cambridge University in the 1830s when he hired a new field assistant named Charles Darwin to help him on some research in Wales. Although Sedgwick was first and last a believer in divinely inspired evolution, he undoubtedly gave Darwin some of the training Darwin required to develop his theory of natural selection.
