Definition: German explorer Ulrich Seetzen was most interested in natural history, but he spent much of his explorations in the trans-Jordan area of the middle east, where he identified the physical locations of several sites from the Judaeo-Christian bible such as Caesarea Philippi, Gerassa and Philadelphia.
