The Shield Archaic Tradition is the name given to a prehistoric culture of the boreal forests of the northern Canadian Shield between Lake Superior and Hudson Bay. Between 6500-2000 BP, the people hunted moose and caribou, and fished in the many lakes and streams. Stone tools include scrapers, points and adzes; bone and antler tools include harpoons and fishhooks.
The Shield Archaic Tradition are considered ancestral to Algonkian speakers of today.
