Stentinello culture

By K. Kris Hirst, About.com

Definition: Stentinello culture is the name given to a Neolithic site and related sites in the Calabria region of Italy, Sicily and Malta, dated to the 5th and 4th millennia BC. The culture was first identified by Italian archaeologist Paolo Orsi for his excavations at the site of Stentinello, near Syracuse. Houses were of wattle and daub, and the characteristic Stentinello pottery is incised with whorls and lines.
