Vitruvius (Marcus Vitruvius Pollio)

Definition: The first century AD Roman engineer and architect Vitruvius (or, Marcus Vitruvius Pollio), is best known in archaeological circles for his description of the Greek temple Ionic and Doric structural elements. His "Ten Books on Architecture" described the architecture of his time and place, and discusses manufacturing processes and other things of interest to Romans and the archaeologists who study them.
