Vuelta Limón (Mexico)

Definition: The archaeological site of Vuelta Limón is located about 20 kilometers from the Pacific coast of the state of Chiapas, on the banks of the Rio Cacaluta.

Discovered by Barbara Voorhies and Douglas Kennett in 1991, the site consists of at least three occupations. Stratum E is an Archaic period late Chantuto Phase occupation, including fire-cracked rock, obsidian, and ground stone tools. Radiocarbon dates on charcoal recovered from Vuelta Limón are between 2000-1500 BC.
