From the article: Choosing the Right School in Archaeology
Many of us choose a graduate school to continue our studies in archaeology based on a range of things, based on practical and impractical reasons. What were your reasons, and how did it turn out? Share Your Reason
The post graduation 'Now what?' syndrome
- In the days before the internet (1990) my grad school research was paper and phone based. I applied to several schools with good reputations but I did not focus much on professors or what I wanted to research. My goal was an MA to then use as a step to law school for cultural resources law. I was accepted everywhere but once DU (U of Denver) accepted me that was my choice. Why? I love to ski! In hindsight it worked out but I would certainly do it differently and try to tour the campus and talk with potential professors to find the mentorship in one's area of interest. Also keep in mind if a Ph.D is the final goal or only an MA when looking for a fit. Cheers!

Not sure I was right
- I chose a grad school because they accepted me and offered me some money. But I didn't go to the campus first and only emailed my major professor and when I got to campus I was told the money wouldn't come until second semester. It was a pretty miserable experience until I was finally able to get funding. I think if I had it to do over again, I would have visited at least some of the unis I applied to and chatted personally with the profs before making that decision.
